Fairtrade ideas for Valentines Day, Shrove Tuesday and Mothers Day

Celebrate with flowers – The Co-op is the largest retailer of Fairtrade flowers in the UK. Its entire range of roses are Fairtrade and in 2024 it sourced 64m stems on Fairtrade terms.

Arena Flowers, the online retailer of flowers sources all its flowers from ethical suppliers or Fairtrade-certified farms that they’ve personally approved in line with their own exacting selection criteria.

Celebrate with wine – The Co-op is the largest seller of Fairtrade wine in the world. Their stores have a wide range of Fairtrade wines from Argentina Chile and South Africa which range in price from £5.65 to £9.95. Sainsbury and Waitrose also have a selection of Fairtrade wines in their stores.

Celebrate with chocolate – Support North Yorkshire’s small family chocolate business since 1889. Whitaker’s Fairtrade range are made in the Skipton factory and include gold foiled solid chocolate hearts, thirteen varieties of dark chocolate fondant creams which are suitable for vegans and gluten free, six varieties of honeycomb crisps (milk and dark), and their iconic wafer thins- dark mint, dark ginger, milk salted caramel and milk coffee. Can be difficult to find in shops but easy to buy online with delivery within 48hours.

Celebrate with a gift that lasts and will be cherished – Namaste UK has a range of fairly traded gifts hand crafted by artisans using sustainable materials. For example, the rainbow heart bowl made in Vietnam using coconut shells left over from food production; red soapstone hearts carved in India with messages;  red and multicoloured heart hangings made from recycled mixed fibre saris and lots more.
